As pleural mesothelioma spreads to the chest, it puts pressure on the structures in this area. This can lead to complications such as:
difficulty breathing
Chest pain
difficulty swallowing
Swelling of the face and neck caused by pressure on the large vein that leads from the top of your body to your heart syndrome (superior vena cava)
The pain caused by pressure on the nerves and spinal cord
Accumulation of fluid in the chest (pleural effusion), which can compress the lungs and nearby make breathing difficult
